Description
This unregistered data source includes catalog numbers that have been appended with additional identifiers for uniqueness, for users who rely on institutionCode, collectionCode, and catalogNumber triplets. These catalogNumber values should not be cited in publications etc. It also does not include the Audubon Media extension. We recommend use of "NMNH Extant Specimen Records" and "NMNH Paleobiology Specimen Records" if at all possible. More than 6 Million public records of specimens accessioned at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, Departments of Botany, Entomology, Invertebrate Zoology, Vertebrate Zoology (Amphibians & Reptiles, Birds, Fishes, Mammals), Paleobiology, Mineral Sciences, and Anthropology. These include more than 290,000 Primary Type specimen records.
Data Records
The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 7,112,112 records.
This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.
Versions
The table below shows only published versions of the resource that are publicly accessible.
